What does “A New Type of Tough” mean to you?
To me, a New Type of Tough means being able to adapt without losing faith in yourself. The world moves so fast and changes so quickly, so I think it’s so important to stay flexible, keep growing, and keep moving forward in spite of uncertainty. I love the idea that with the right foundation, you can be a rock in rushing water. My foundation comes from family, faith, passion projects, and people who remind me that I don’t have to figure everything out all at once.

Meet Emily
I am a Charlotte native, singer-songwriter, and lifelong music lover and am excited to be back in my hometown after spending the last few years in New York City. I currently spend my time working in wealth management, a big change from the start of my career in hospitality. I’m especially excited to be part of Mission 34 and to share my music in support of a cause centered around connection, community, and reminding people that they’re never alone.
I grew up singing and playing piano, and eventually taught myself how to play guitar and write songs of my own. I studied Music and Peace & Conflict Studies at Colgate University, where I performed, led an a cappella group, and helped create live music events for my campus community. From Charlotte open mics to college stages and performing my original music for larger audiences, music has always been one of my favorite ways to connect with people.
Outside of work and music, I love being with my friends and family, exploring Charlotte, discovering new music, and finding any excuse to be around a good live show. After a few years away, I’m grateful to be home and excited to keep making music in the city where it all started.
